Estate Administration

Estate administration generally refers to the management of a decedent's property which was not owned by a trust, was not jointly owned and does not have a beneficiary designation. Estate administration is essentially synonymous with probate and includes the marshalling of assets, paying taxes, paying creditors, paying expenses, accounting for assets and distributing estate property.

Where property is owned by a trust, then the process of "trust administration" is involved and will be governed by different laws.
